Where to spend Tet

  • Big cities (Hanoi, Saigon): decorations and flower markets before Tet, surprisingly quiet streets afterwards.
  • Hoi An and Hue: the traditional atmosphere suits the period, and February is a good season in the Centre.
  • Phu Quoc and the beaches: resorts stay open, but this is also a period of high demand.

How to plan

  • Book early: trains, domestic flights and hotels, especially around 4 and 10 February.
  • Don't travel during the peak: settle for 3 or 4 nights in one place.
  • Choose a hotel with a restaurant: it is simpler when local restaurants close.
  • Withdraw cash in advance: with small shops closed, it is better to plan ahead.
  • Check sights: opening hours of museums and monuments may change.
