Vietnam with kids: family route and tips
Updated 3 November 2026 · 4 min read
In short
Vietnam works well for a family trip, as long as you keep a slow pace. Choose few stops: Hanoi, a Ha Long cruise, Hoi An and a beach in Da Nang or Phu Quoc. Prefer short flights and private cars over long night buses.
Stops that work well
| Stop | Why with kids | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Hoi An | Walkable town, bikes, lanterns, beach | Floods from October to December |
| Ha Long Bay | Boat, kayaks, caves | Check safety rules on board |
| Da Nang | Big beach, hotels with pools, Ba Na Hills | Airport close by |
| Phu Quoc | Beaches, resorts, amusement parks | November to April |
| Ninh Binh | Boats and bikes in the rice fields | Many steps at Hang Mua |
Our advice
- Pace: at least 3 nights per stop, with half a day free each day.
- Transport: a private car on short trips, a flight on long ones. Ask for a child seat in advance, as they are not standard.
- Health: see a doctor before you leave, and protect children from the sun and mosquitoes.
- Hotels: a pool makes all the difference at midday, when it is hot.
