Hue or Hoi An: where to spend your nights in central Vietnam?

Updated 1 November 2026

Our verdict

Most travellers do both: Hue for its imperial history in one to two days, Hoi An to settle for two to three nights. If you must choose, Hoi An suits a first trip better, with its old town, the beach and Da Nang nearby. Hue appeals more to history and food lovers.
