Phu Quoc or Nha Trang: which beach to choose in Vietnam?

Updated 31 October 2026

Our verdict

Choose by month first: Phu Quoc from November to April, Nha Trang from January to August. From June to August, Nha Trang wins (monsoon on Phu Quoc); in November-December, Phu Quoc wins (rain in Nha Trang). When both are good, Phu Quoc is calmer and more of an island escape, Nha Trang more urban and lively.

Frequently asked questions

Which beach in Vietnam in July?

The Centre: Nha Trang, Da Nang or the beaches near Hoi An, in their full dry season. Phu Quoc is then in its monsoon, with rough seas on the west coast.

Which beach in Vietnam at Christmas?

Phu Quoc, in its dry season, but it is the busiest time of the year: book at least two months ahead. Nha Trang and the Centre are still rainy in December.
