Ha Long cruise: day trip, 1 night or 2 nights?

Updated 31 October 2026

Our verdict

The one-night cruise is the right choice for most travellers: sunset and sunrise on the bay, kayaking, and about 24 hours there. A day trip means about 5 hours on the road there and back for a few hours on the water. Two nights are worth it if you want to go further (Lan Ha, Bai Tu Long) without rushing.

Frequently asked questions

Is one night enough for Ha Long Bay?

Yes for most travellers: one night covers kayaking, a cave, sunset and sunrise. The second night is mainly for reaching further, quieter areas.

When should you book your cruise?

A few weeks ahead in high season (October to April). From July to September, choose a free-cancellation offer: typhoons can cancel departures.
